Key points raised during the session We often develop policy briefs spontaneously…

Key points raised during the session

We often develop policy briefs spontaneously as an offshoot or output of study but not go all out to go through the suggested process highlighted in the presentation. Often this is done by a consultant as part of deliverables from a consultancy for example to communicate a key message(s) of a given study….The challenge is lack of uniformity in the approach or style of writing by different consultants

One of the challenges we often face is the assumption of the roles and priorities by stakeholders – which is done by project managers – what steps can be taken where stakeholders are not available to comment on the information/key decision making factors?

There sometimes is the assumption that relevant policy makers within the food system do not have sufficient attention or knowledge on the topic, or that the research/intervention has made new findings.

Policy Briefs are …

Discussion

How shall knowledge be packaged so that it is useful to policy makers?

There exist policy windows through which Policy Briefs and other influential documents should be pushed.

It is the role of projects to both document and organise data and outcomes in a presentable formats – such as policy briefs – and also be attempt to policy windows openings.
