WHEN: This training will take place each Wednesday from April 12th until…

WHEN: This training will take place each Wednesday from April 12th until June 7th, from 10-11.30 am CEST

WHY: Much too often, others – usually the project delivery staff – are reporting on the project results on behalf of participants. Furthermore, these stories tend to be recorded in written format, meaning that in contexts of low literacy, the stories are being recorded in a medium that is inaccessible to the actually involved population. Using Participatory Video, selected stories are recorded on video by participants themselves, making the information accessible and useable.

Using PV can help participants tell their stories and communicate their perspectives in an accessible, compelling and versatile format through a participatory process. We will use PV in combination with (an adapted version of) the Most Significant Change technique in order to gain valuable insights on Monitoring and Evaluation.

This course will run over 9 sessions. Each session will be two hours, in which we will give a theoretical overview, we will explain practical PV exercises that are fun and participatory for you to repeat in your own projects, will have brief brainstorming sessions and there will be a short homework session.

Throughout these 9 modules, we will dive into the ´why´ participatory video and how this is different from other participatory methods and/or documentary filmmaking. We will touch upon the ethics and challenges of facilitating a PV process and how to deal with difficult situations. After this, we will focus on the crossroads of PV and M&E and go through the different steps and exercises. We will end with how to conduct a participatory paper edit and how to disseminate the final video.

This webinar is to share results and lessons learned of Farm Radio International about involving women in development projects

When: March 29 at 11 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. GMT

*This bilingual event will have live translation between English and French.

Too often, our right to information — to make informed decisions about our livelihood and to have a say in the systems that are meant to support us — is overlooked. This is especially true for women who don’t have the same access to information or the same opportunities to be heard and share their knowledge and experiences as men.

We know that respecting women’s right to information is essential to improving gender equality.

But how do we do that and do it successfully? How do we do it at scale, so that we can reach millions? And how do we do it in a way that is sustainable and involves women in every step of the process?

Drawing lessons from our five-year project that saw 1.5 million people in West Africa – including 500,000 women – try new gender-inclusive practices, we’ll explore how to:

Ensure women have a say in their own development and are meaningfully involved from start to finish of a project

Use creative solutions (radio dramas) to change viewpoints around sensitive topics

Bridge the digital gender divide at a local level and use ICTs to boost women’s confidence and amplify their voices

Work with and engage local partners at every level of the project – from design to implementation

Build long-lasting information and communication platforms that serve rural communities beyond the lifetime of a project

Join March 29 as we explore lessons learned for development organizations to build into the design of future projects.
